Recruitment process

If there are vacancies within the trust, the board will follow the process outlined below.

Sourcing new trustees

  • Trustees will be recruited according to their skills.
  • The board will register vacancies with volunteer recruitment organisations.
  • The board may also advertise vacancies to parents, local employers, on local forums, websites such as LinkedIn, other trusts, alumni.
  • Candidates recommended to the board by current members, trustees or staff will undertake the same recruitment process as external candidates.

Applications

Potential new trustees will be:

  • Given information about the trust and if requested, an initial informal call with the chair, another trustee or the governance professional.
  • Provided with the role description, board constitution and code of conduct.
  • Made aware of eligibility requirements and expectations for completing induction and ongoing training and development.
  • Asked to complete an application form.

Selection

  • Candidates will be interviewed by two trustees.
  • If the appointment is to fill a member appointed vacancy, then a member will be invited to join the panel.
  • The interview will explore any possible conflicts of interest.

Recommendation

  • Successful candidates will be recommended to the trust’s members for appointment.
